Honey Bee Diagnostic Network
​NH Healthy Hives Initiative
Varroa mites, Nosema, and high annual losses are a growing problem in New Hampshire. NH Healthy Hives program is a new NHBA initiative to promote healthy hive management.
​
The 2020 theme, NH Is Blooming, collects data on what flowers are in bloom and what color pollen is being collected by the honeybees.
The theme for 2019 was Varroa Mite testing helps beekeepers (whether they treat or not) become more aware of their varroa situation.

NH Honeybee Diagnostic Network
The Diagnostic Network was created to give beekeepers more information about their colonies, and to gain a better understanding of how these threats impact our state as a whole. The Network is made up of experienced beekeepers who volunteer to help address these larger issues facing honey bees.

Diagnose Your Hives & Participate in Citizen Science Projects
Are you a beekeepers in New Hampshire? Contribute to our citizen science projects by doing autopsies on your dead hives, learning how to do mite testing and collect samples for Nosema testing. Learn more about your colonies, their health, and know what to look for during inspections.

This program is a result of donations to the NH beekeepers Association Research fund and a SARE Professional Development Program grant, awarded to UNH Cooperative Extension and the New Hampshire Beekeepers Association in 2018. SARE offers competitive grants to projects that explore and address key issues affecting the sustainability and future economic viability of agriculture. Northeast SARE is a regional program of the nationwide SARE effort; SARE is part of the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, or NIFA.

New Hampshire has a honey beekeepers club in every county which hold monthly meetings and share resources.

Nosema is a growing problem in NH. Beekeepers should be aware of the symptoms and have their hives diagnosed if they suspect a problem. Because nosema spores are so small, it can only be detected using a microscope.
